
PA Motor Vehicle Physical Damage Appraisers License Information

Please be certain you meet the minimum training or experience requirements before testing and applying for a license or your application will be denied. Any questions contact the Pennsylvania Insurance Department at 717-787-3840.
To Apply for the Appraiser's license, you must first successfully pass the two-part exam.
First
Schedule the written exam at a Thomson Prometric test center. Thomson Prometric can be reached by phone: 800-786-3926 or through their web site prometric.com. Examination information, including exam sites and fees are available from their web site.
The fee that is paid to Thomson Prometric covers both parts of the exam with the exception of retest and/or no show charges.
After registering for the written exam it remains valid for 90 calendar days after it has been processed, and will expire without further notice at that time.
Once you have taken the written exam and obtained your Score Report, it is your responsiblity to schedule an appointment for the practical exam.
Second
The practical exam estimate is conducted at:

Thomson Prometric does NOT forward your score Report to Vale. We need to have a copy of your Score Report on file before you can take the practical test. It can be faxed to 717-790-9506 (with cover sheet including phone and fax numbers). Please lighten on a photocopier before faxing so it is easier to read.
The test is given on Saturday mornings promptly at 9am except holiday weekends. Once testing has begun, no-one will be admitted- no exceptions. You are allotted 1 hour to complete the estimate and should anticipate being at the test facility for approximately 1 1/2 hours.
You must wait for the results to be mailed to you. They will be sent no later than the Tuesday following your test date. We cannot give test results by phone.
If you must retake the practical exam you must wait 30 days from the date of failure. A retest fee will apply.
Cancellations should be made by Wednesday before the test date to avoid a cancellation fee.
Third
After successfully completing both parts of your exam, send the following information to the Pennsylvania Insurance Department:
