The Workers' Compensation Adjusting course teaches
the principles of Workers' Compensation insurance coverage
and Employers' Liability coverage from the claims handling
point of view. Students learn how to determine the average
weekly wage, compensation rates, waiting periods and types
of compensable diseases. Temporary and permanent
disabilities, territoriality issues, survivor and rehabilitation
benefits, and other statutory and coverage benefits are also studied.
The Federal Compensation Acts are reviewed and discussed,
including USL&H, Jones Act, FELA and FECA.
Special emphasis is given to Good Faith and Ethical claim
handling procedures, cost containment practices and the
medical aspects of Workers' Compensation cases.
